Museum of Contemporary Art: An Oasis of Modern Creativity
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade is a key institution for the exhibition of Yugoslav, Serbian and international art, covering the period from 1900 to the present. This museum not only presents works of art, but is also actively involved in the cultural and artistic trends of contemporary society.

History of the Museum of Contemporary Art
Founded in 1958, the Museum of Contemporary Art was originally known as the Modern Gallery, with the aim of following and studying the contemporary art of the then Yugoslavia. The museum building, located opposite the Kalemegdan Fortress, was completed in 1965. The first director of the museum was a prominent artist, art historian and theoretician Miodrag B. Protić. In 1987, the museum was declared a cultural monument.

Architecture of the Museum of Contemporary Art
The architecture of the museum is a recognizable example of post-war Yugoslav architecture. The building consists of six cubes with beveled corners, making it easily visible from a distance. The exterior walls are lined with marble slabs and glass, while the sloping roofs are completely covered with glass. The interior of the museum is divided into five levels without vertical partitions, allowing visitors to easily view the exhibits from different levels. The area of the interior is 5,055 square meters, and the highest level is located at a height of 10.14 meters.

Collections and Exhibitions of the Museum
The museum's permanent exhibition contains about 8,000 works that are constantly enlarged by purchases, gifts and legacies. In addition to the permanent exhibition, exhibitions of many artists of the 20th and 21st centuries are often organized. Some of the artists whose works have been exhibited include Marina Abramovich, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves Klein, Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee.
